Introduction
This city is  located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers in southwest China.
Since its founding 3,000 years ago, Chongqing has been called Jiangzhou, Yuzhou, and Gongzhou, before getting its present name nearly 800 years ago. Since the Qin Dynasty (221 BC-206 BC), many dynasties have set up administrative institutions that have endowed the city with brilliant cultures. Perched beside the Yangtze, the "Golden River," Chongqing symbolizes Yangtze River civilizations and is the cradle of Bayu culture.

Standing at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers, Chongqing is known as "the City of Fog", "the Mountain City", and "the River Town" as well. Surrounded by mountains, the city is hot and rainy in summer, so it is sometimes called "the Furnaces". In history, Chongqing was originally the capital of the State of Ba three thousand years ago, and the place was renamed for many times till it got the name Chongqing (Double Celebration)eventually. In 1997,Chongqing became the fourth municipality directly under the Central Government, together with Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.

As the largest city of China, Chongqing covers an area of 82,300 sq kilometers with a population of 31.44 million. There are many famous spots in the city, including the Beiwenquan, Nanwenquan, the Longevity Lake and other places. During the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang moved from Nanjing to Chongqing and made it a war-time capital, which results in many commemorative sites such as the Red Crag Village, the Chongqing Office of the Eighth Route Army, and so on. But to enjoy the dim shadows of the boats and steamers will be most attractive. Meanwhile, Chongqing is also the starting point for a cruise on the Yangtze River with many historical and scenic spots along its bank .
Chongqing attracts visitors from home and abroad for its cultural heritage and other tourist attractions. The city is the starting point for the Yangtze River Cruise, which explores the stunning scenery of the Three Gorges. Other attractions include the Dazu Rock Carvings , valuable works of art carved during the Ninth Century, Gold Buddhist Mountain, a rich repository of diverse animals and plants; and Fishing Town, one of three ancient battlefields in China. Ancient Ci Qi Kou village lures tourists to linger in its streets to buy handicraft souvenirs.

A tourist traveling to Chongqing comes for one reason, and that is not to explore Chiang Kai Shek's  provisional capital but instead to catch a Yangtze river cruise.  Before catching your ship wander around the varied markets of the city.  Chinese markets are always an experience that cater to each one of your senses- Chongqing's are no exception.  Unlike the two bigger cities of Beijing and Shanghai, Chongqing feels distinctly Chinese.  While the ancient and future capitals of the country stand as examples of a China carefully presented to the outside world, of what was, and what shall be.  Chongqing is not an extroverted older brother, it is an inland river port, and its makeup and character feel authentically representative of a different, more provincial China.
